Can't get the hatch to stay closed

Default Can't get the hatch to stay closed

Have an 86 944 Great Car....BUT....The rear hatch will not stay locked in place....Tried moving the locking enclosures (?) around....to no avail...Any suggestions....Before I sell her.....Thanks

Make sure that the latches are closing all the way... Some have gotten grungy and sticky in the last 18 years.

Also, make sure that the pin (which looks like an arrow pointing down) is not worn out. After a while the flat surface becomes rounded and it allows the hatch to pop up.

Jimmy D,
The pin closures, ( part on the body that the hatch pin goes into) should be a little loose, if the bolts holding it on are to tight then it can't align it self when closed.

try lubing the catch piece on the female side. that piece sticks sometimes and doesn't come out to hold the mushroom cap.

You may also make sure that the mechanism is returning all the way. On my car I often need to manually twist the locking mechanism all the way back into place.
