Engine Oil
What are you guys running for engine oil in your S2's??? I want to run Mobil 1 synthetic, but not sure if I should use a thin weight oil or a thicker oil???
I'm considering 5W50, 10W30, 10W40 and possibly 15W50 (although I think the latter may be too thick). Keep in mind, it is a daily driver and also will get some track miles on it this summer!
The owner's manual was no help as it did not list a suggested oil weight or type. I've always used Mobil 1 though.
Thanks!

I just switched from Mobil 1 to non-synthetic and it is doing better. On the highway, I seemed to burn a lot more oil then I do now. Not to mention it's half as much!

In my 944 type 1, I use 10w40 (semi-synthetic)
It uses 0,5liter per 1000kilometers, I can see a little bit of smoke a start-ups.
When using 0w40, you must expect much more oil concumption.
For on the track, 10w50 (or even 10w60) is maybe a better choice, because it dousn't get too thin at very high temperatures.

I don't have an S2, but the oil reccomendations are virtually identical.
For track, I would reccomend at least 15W40, and would usually run 20W50, although, I'm under the impression that the first number does not matter, so if you are able to find 10W50, then it should be fine as well.
Since you live pretty far north (not as far as me! =), I would reccomend the following:
Summer - 15W40 or 20W50
Winter - 10W30
Since you don't have the really cold snaps like we do in Calgary, you shouldn't need to go down to 5W30 for the winter.
As usual, I would reccomend nothing but Amsoil, but not many people can afford/find Amsoil, so I would also reccomend Mobil 1. I have run Mobil 1 in my previous cars and been extremely happy with it.

I use the heavier Mobil 1 year round, but my car is mostly just a stock auto-xer. I am always careful to let it get warm before I drive it hard. S2s typically use a lot of oil at lapping events when you have sustained high rpms, so check your oil often when lapping. You'd probably be very safe with something like 10/30 in the winter, and 15/50 in the summer.
