Default Replacing Speedo Cable '84 944

Hi guys

My speedo cable is catching and causing the speedo and fuel economy needles to wave about all over the place, i can also hear a clicking and even notice it outside coming from the wheel hub.

My question is, is it easy for a non mechanic, although i can wield a spanner, to replace this cable??? its not a particulalry expensive part but i understand it can take a while if so can anyone give me a quick pointer.

Cheers

FWIW, I had the same symptoms and the clicking sound on my 84. I thought it was the cable too. I took out the spedometer and spun it with a drill and found out that the click was actually in the speedo. It turned out to be one of the gears inside the spedometer. It had slid on the shaft slightly and became misaligned. I realigned it and then tested it with a drill to make sure the click was no longer in the speedo. It's been fine for six months.

Its not too bad. The hardest part is accually getting the cable on the speedo. I found that it was easier to pull the speedo out, attach the cable with the speedo out of the dash, then route it back through the car to the wheel with someone to help. Also take off your steering wheel, it makes things ALOT better.

Cheers Guys , i'll check the speedo itself first, see if their are dodgy teeth, but i think because its clicking at the wheel hub too its prolly the cable.

Cheers
