Default 89 NA steel exhaust manifold problem

My sister's 89 944NA just developed a little problem at the 1-4 exhaust - the flange just broke off the steel exhaust manifold downtube. Anyone successful in having this re-welded?

Randy, does the 89 NA have a stainless steel exhaust manifold? There are some old threads here about guys welding up broken stainless manifolds with mixed results as far as how long the weld hangs together.

Thanks Dan - did a series of searches on the 944 forum and did not come up with anything - yes, they are the SS headers. Looks like the lower flange connecting to the Cat has broken off - will try the welding route first.

update - had a local custom exhaust fabricator reweld the lower flange and add a few gussets to solve the problem! Was able to complete the repairs without re & re the manifold too (apparently saves about 3 hours labor).

I suspect that the exhaust side motor mount has failed leading to some rotational motion in the engine that lead to the flange cracking though - so new motor mounts are next on the list!
