Hard copies are very expensive -- electronic copies can be had cheaply.

Why did the hard copies just triple in price overnight?

Maybe because they are no longer printed??
I am told that the german version is sold out and no longer available from the publisher (whoever that may be).

You can get a full version on ebay for around $30 with shipping.

Default still something to be said about 'tactile'

Despite the wonders of digital technology...there still remains something appealing about the organic.

I had the workshop manuals on disc, but I just wanted the hard copies.

You can't take your pc out and lay it on the hood of the car and quickly flip pages...although I suppose one could print out every page of the disc...or particular pages.

I just don't understand why the manuals are not priced reasonably...say around $100. If they are no longer printed, then it should be legal for an enthusiasts to make paper reproductions.

My post was not so much a 'how do I get the manuals?" as it was a "why did Porsche just increase the price overnight from $300 to $1000 ?

I was curious about the 'politics' of it....the motivation for a 300% increase.

My set of manuals are in gray binders, while I have seen others in maroon....curious.

Either on disc or paper, the workshop manuals far surpass the Haynes manual. The pics in the Haynes manual are low quality. That said, one could learn about all they need to know from the Haynes manual and the internet....but I just wanted the 'ultimate' manual for my baby.

The Haynes manual is like Websters.

While the Porsche Workshop Manuals are like the OED.

If nothing else, the paper manuals are a collectors item. I doubt the discs that can be easily copied will be of any collector value despite being very functional in their own right.

Anyone else find the PET disc frustrating to navigate ?

I wish some cpu saavy enthusiast would put the PET into pdf or better yet post all the info on a website.

I think that Porsche does not want to make it any easier for shadetree mechanics to cut into service center profits....so they jacked up the price on the hard manuals.

Question is, why now ?

i understand what you mean about accessability of the manuals while working on the car. that's why i have an old pc in my garage with wireless internet so i can look up whatever i need while working on the car. any paper manuals i have had have ended up totally torn and completely greased over so i prefer the electronic version for their staying power

The good thing about the electronic version is that when you have a job to do just print up that one job and when finished just toss it so you don't have all that room taken up.

Nope. Sorry. Doesn't work that way.

I don't think there are any legal electronic copies.
