Default Fuel Pump and related issues

So I am looking at purchasing my first 944. Ive found one with a body in great condition only issue is it needs a new fuel pump. Is this is sign of issues to come? How difficult to replace is the pump to replace. This would be my first experience with a front engine Porsche. Appreciate the advice.

If that's all it needs, fuel pump is pretty easy to change and a relatively cheap item to buy (try Amazon and look for Bosch OEM).

However, unless it's a full body-off restoration, that's not all it needs.

Thanks for the response I know the water pump has been done already. Here is a link to the craigslist ad https://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto...905903315.html if I could get your thoughts that would be awesome and greatly appreciated.

I'd say it's worth a look. Biggest issue with old cars is rust or accidents: if that's original paint, super. But seems awfully scratch or stone chip free to be original. You'd have to look up close for these issue. Fuel pump more than 70 so not sure why he's trying to downplay that. Kinda funny story about cold / warm staring issue.

Best to read "What to look for" pages on clarks-garage.com . You'll get a great sense of what to look for when in person, which is the only way to evaluate an old car (says the guy who bought his sight unseen in another country even lol)

That car has a rebuilt title which means it was totaled by an insurance company. Could be the paint is good because it’s been painted. There is something wrong with the car, it is not just a fuel pump. Not sure why it won’t start when it’s warm but I’ll bet that you’ll find a lot more issues than what the seller is saying. If you don’t know how to work on these cars it’s easy to spend $2-3K on maintenance...

remember these are 30 year old cars - fuel lines (especially into the engine bay - can cause a fire), motor mounts ($400 a pair just for parts), etc. this is not your average Honda. Be careful when buying.
