Default Bring Back the Porsche 944 (will be called 912 in Asia for obvious reasons)!

Hey guys! I thought it would be a good idea to bring back the Porsche 944 (or 968) as the successor to the Cayman / Boxster. Its body design makes it far more practical, and the 944 / 968 Turbo can have either the VR6 from the old base Cayenne or the engine used in the Audi TT-RS. How does that sound?

The 944 has already been brought back. It's called the Subaru BRZ/Scion FRS.

Nah, man. Its a tier above that and will compete with the Toyota Supra, BMW M2, and others like that.

Also, the 944 is a 2+2. The convertible, called the 968, will have a soft top.

Why would it be called a 912? The 912 is a four-cylinder 911.

Why would only the convertible be called a 968? The 968 came as both coupe and cab.

Sounds interesting though, why do you ask? Are you making them?

Ok then. how about this: the 968 will be the Asia version, and the 944 will be elsewhere. The convertible will be the 944 cabrio.

Also, a lot of people, including my dad, say that both regions should both be called 968 because it caters to all markets/regions. I disagree because we are forced to call it the 968 in Asia because they despise the number 4, but the 944 was far more popular, so 944 is more familiar to the rest of the world.

I think there's some confusion as to what you are trying to accomplish. I imagine he is asking why you are talking about making a new car with a new name.

VR6 is an ancient engine now. As for the TTRS engine, that would be cool. There is someone on the Turbo forum making kits to fit the 07K engine into the 944. The MK2 TTRS used an 07K. The MK3 switched to an aluminum block, I don't know if it is still an 07K.

As for Porsche making it, good luck. I have no doubt it has occurred to the Weissach engineers. But Porsche's financial department is going toward electrification.
