944 Clicking/tapping sound from passenger side
All,
I have a strange issue. Im getting a clicking/tapping sound that sounds like it's coming from the passenger side door area. It happens when I fail to engage first gear smoothly and get a bit of lurch in the car. I get a fixed rate clicking sound for a few seconds, fairly loud. It sounds almost like when a power antena's gears wear out, and you just get a clicking sound. Ive had this happen four times now this week. The rate of clicks is not tied to the RPMs or wheel speed that I can tell. They last 2 to 5 seconds and stop (no fade away, just stops). Anyone have any ideas on where to look? Thanks, Brennan |
I think the issue was low brake fluid. The brake fluid warning light came on this morning after my commute to work. I filled the resevoir before driving it home, and clutch pedal pressure and bite point point feel much better, and I haven't heard the odd noise since. I'll give it a few more days before considering this the solution.

Ok, it happened again, so it wasn't just low brake fluid. I for sure was able to accelerate to the point of the shifting into second, and the rate of the tapping sound did not change. It stopped as soon as I depressed the clutch again. Is there something inside the clutch housing that can spin/oscillate at a fixed speed that is hitting the inside of the bell housing?

Ok, Im pretty sure its the cruise control servo. It happened today when I had the hood open and started the car. Definitely coming from the CC by the battery. The brain of CC is by the clutch foot, so Im wondering if I was bumping the brain and triggering the click so tied clutch action to the issue. Anyway, Im considering this solved.
