Where to look for worn through wire of Sunroof (kills relay)?
Hi everyone,
I'm a guy from Germany who is driving his 944 S2 for allmost 8 years now. Hoping to get an "H-license plate" (for historical cars) this summer when it turns 30 years old. Last year on a real hot summerday my dash went out and the sunroof would not close - well a fuse was broken. Replacing the fuse reactivated the dash but the roof still would not close (needed to do this manuelly). Finally I found our the relay was broken - bought a "new" (used) one which switched ones and was also broken afterwards. --> In a German forum I found someone who had exactly the same problem some years ago - his solution was to fix a broken (worn through) wire - and replace the relay afterwards. The wire was the one from Pin 4 of the roof switch plug to the roof. My problem is that I have no idea where to look for the worn through part of the wire - you know - behind the dash, the paneling of the roof, the paneling on the left side next to the door?? The other guy won't answer my PM (for 9 Month now) and has not been active in the other forum for 12 months now. Did anyone of you have a similar Problem and might know, where the wire from Pin 4 of the roof switch to the roof could typically be worn? kind regards Dennis |
Why not run a new wire (one with no worn through insulation) and not worry about the old wire?

Well that will be the solution if I really don't find the broken wire.
1. If there is one worn through wire - another one might be near by. So I'd like to check that "place". 2. These relays are not cheap - I don't want to ruin another one by trying if I'm not sure to have found the problem |
