Default 1987 Timing belt issue and runnig problem.

This is my first post about my new 944. I just bought this 1987 944 from the second owner. He stated it was having idle issues and didn't have the time or desire to work on it any more. The car would start with the throttle fully depressed. Once started you had to keep your foot at about mid throttle or more to keep the car running.

I decided to check the timing on the car and when I took off the distributor cover off I saw that the TB had rubbed a groove in the cover. Does any one have any ideas on why this is happening? Also I noted the TB tensioner was not tight and not contacting the belt. Any recommendations on what could be causing the idle issue and the belt issue? Also I have already replaced the engine speed sensor.
