1988 944 base model engine determination?
I was getting insurance from Hagerty today on my new track car, and there was a question as to which HP 2.5 liter engine was in the vehicle. One had 147hp ( I assume this is what I have, with absolutely no reason I can give, NA Spec maybe?) and the other 163 HP. Both Fuel injected.
Is there a way to determine which is present? Porsche website with VIN check perhaps? I'm wondering if the higher HP is European spec, and I may remember seeing that somewhere during my research on 944s. Obviously, dyno-ing will be the sure way, and I may have to if I ever go Spec racing anyway, but thats a ways off.
Thanks in advance!

your 1988 would be around 152-158hp depending who you ask.
163 is the euro number, 147 is accurate for a 1987.
better use the 147 number since it comes with emissions equipment, if the insurance cares about that.
