Greetings. Is it possible to use early (steel) control arms on an 85.5?

Yes, but you will need the early rear mounts and the early sway bar mount (replaces the drop link in the later arms.)

As far as I know, the early rear mounts are NLA.

The larger sway bars of the later cars might have rubbing issues when used with the early control arms. I mentioned this because I replaced my original sway bar with a 24mm sway bar and the clearance between the arm and sway bar is pretty close. So you may need a little finagling. I believe 944Online used to sell a kit with the steel arms and all the related parts for this conversation.
