Default Heat in the cabin

I have a 1986 944 N/A. Recently if the outside air temperature is below 60, hot air will come into the cabin without touching the temperature control. If the outside air is above 60, the air coming into the cabin is the temperature of the outside air. All this happens without touching the temperature control. I am not crazy, this is happening. Any ideas?

This has happened to me on my 87S and it was just a white plastic clip holding the air mixing control arm to the actuator. This is behind a small door on the left side of the control unit under the dash. $.50 part but hard to find. When I unscrewed the door the clip fell out broken. Could be other things mentioned but I would start with the cheap easy stuff first.
