944 engine search

What is the most powerful engine I can put in a 1984 944?
what's the cheapest engine I can put in a 1984 944? If you could, please attach links to engines for sale, as I have had trouble finding any.

Basically any 8 valve engine 82-89 will bolt in with minimal issues. Best would be 1989 2.7l about 162hp/165tq vs your car 143/137.

should be able to find a running 2.7 for about 1200$ about anywhere in the country.

V2Rocket were are you finding 2.7's for that price? I never see them at all except for the one I have in my 89 auto but it came in the car... I wouldn't sell it for less than 2000, the cylinder head alone is worth 1200! I will be turning mine into a 3.0 liter and turbocharging someday.
A turbo engine swap will get you the most power and turbo engines are 1200$ about anywhere in the country.

I'll sell my 2.7 complete engine wiring harness and computer with 60,000miles for $1000. You pay for shipping. It's in Tokyo!

plyhammer in ohio regularly sells them for that price.
if you find someone willing to pay $1200 for that head you should RUN to the bank.

$800-900 is more typical from my experience selling them.
