Default Third speed/reference sensor?

I'm working on gapping my speed/reference sensors, but I wanted to know what the third sensor off to the side in that bracket is (connected with a standard fastener) and where it's supposed to hook up. When I took my engine out of the car, the connector was just capped off and wasn't connected. It's a round connector.
It's the lower sensor in this image

thats an unused diagnostic sensor, ok to leave it capped or just remove it entirely

I have a faulty crank sensor 600kohms. I got the car on jack stands but do not see the sensors. How do I get there?

Below the fuel rail near the firewall. Hard to reach.

All 8V cars have them in the same spot, so even though the above article references a turbo, its actually easier for the non turbo cars. If you have a 16V car there is only one sensor, but same rules apply.
