Belt Recommendations - Brands & Cost
As I get ready to do the belt change on my 1984 944 n/a, are there any recommendations as to the brand of belt I should purchase / target price level?
(This is for the Timing, Cam, and accessory belts PS & AC)
I see a lot of information on the actual changing of the belts, but little on "This is a great belt', or "I've not been satisfied with x belt because..."
I see prices online that range from $12 to $40.
Any Recommendations?

FWIW, I buy belts from Porsche as an insurance policy. Definitely not the cheapest option, but if the belt fails, they'll stand behind it. eBay? Not so much...

As far as I know there are 3 companies that make timing belts for the 944 - Gates, Conti, and Dayco.
I believe the genuine Porsche is Dayco.
I have used all three, they all go on the same, never had an issue, I have done over 50 944/968 timing belt jobs over the years.
I think Conti makes the "kits" but if you piece the kits together you can save some money with the Gates belt, IIRC.

Thank you for the advice. I'm leaning toward Gates. Is there a particular part number / belt number that I should look for? (1984 944 n/a).
I didn't know if there were 8 valve / 16 valve, or Turbo / Non-Turbo variations.
Lot's of novice questions, but my fear is purchasing the wrong item. Thanks.
