Starter motor fire?

Starter motor fire?
So I just got my car back from the shop where we replaced the clutch. I have been driving it all week with no issues. About an hour ago I went to start it and the starter motor got stuck on. I tried killing it with the key but that didn't work so I shoved it in gear and stalled it. The car began to smoke and I opened the hood and smoke was coming out from behind the intake manifold. I ran up to my apartment to grab some water and threw it behind there. I then disconnected the battery and when I did the positive lead started sparking like crazy when it touched anything. Does anyone know what just happened to my car? I have a ton of money into this thing already and I am deflated.

After searching the internet and getting to better know how starters work (FYI it is not magic) I think my starter solenoid got stuck and fried itself. I obviously need a new starter now but should I be concerned with anything else?

I bet the solenoid wire came in contact with the B+ wire which would keep the starter motor running, and in turn cause it to burn up. if you ever get in a situation were there is a possibility of electrical fire disconnect the negative lead at the battery. FYI the B+ wire is the positive lead that is connected directly to the starter from the positive side of the battery.

With the battery negative cable disconnected at the battery check the wires at the starter, the large one should be well insulated if not you can shrink wrap it if it is too bad you will need to replace it. do the same with the smaller wire. the starter might have lived through the catastrophe.
