This has been going on with my 84 na too. I have had the CV Joints checked out and they said they were fine. I recomend checking the rear wheel bearings which was recomended to me. Mine has also changed to a kind of thunkish sound and it happens when I slowdown by backing off the gas with it in gear, thus putting strain on the rear end. Let me know what you find as I have posted a request for help on this kind of thing myself. BTW you could check that other 944 forum Flat-6 and see it there too.

yer i think i get the ticking sound even when i slow down.not so loud though.i recently took the back right wheel off and i noticed the sound after this .i havnt had the car long so maybe its always been there.when iv got time ill have another look.

wer get there in the end!

If it is a light clicking noise when accelerating just above idle, it's most likely the injectors which are very noisy on these cars and that's considered normal. If you hear something loud under load, this clould be something more serious and should be checked out.

Check your parking brake adjustment!

I had the same./similar ticking noise. Thought it was CV joint, I went out and spent $220 on new CV Repair kit from Porsche. Did NOT install it. I removed wheel and adjsuted the parking brake, no more ticking (cross fingers).

HTH.

I wish mine was the parking brake, but upon careful inspection, (missed by the local shop) I found a 1" tear in the seam of my inner drivers side CV Boot. The mystery of the "ticking/clunk sound" is solved. I pulled the hole open a bit, and looked inside and guess what? Dry with a serious lack of grease. Need a new CV Joint now.

Take apart the enitre assembly, clean up, repack, assemble with new boots and you will probally be fine for another 20 years!

I have 3 pair of clean CV bearing assemblies in plastic bags just in case!

924martini,
I think mine may be beyond just cleaning and repacking. I will more than likely need to replace the CV joint.
