Fuel Pump Question

1984 944

In the shop manual the brown wire to the original fuel pump is designated ground. What I am unsure of if the ground post on the fuel pump is the fatter of thinner post. I want to make sure I have the wires on the correct posts.

Can someone please tell me

I do not know for sure, but normally the fatter post is positive. If guess wrong, the pump runs backwards and no fuel pressure.
Also, the wire connectors should match the diameter of the posts.

IIRC, the lugs on the two wires will only fit the posts in the proper way. There's an M4 and an M5 (again, IIRC) threaded post and nut. And the smaller ring terminal on one of the wires won't fit on the larger post.

What is IIRC?

Thanks, I thought it was maybe a part abbreviation.

So if I run the pump backwards does it fill up my fuel tank? !?

Thanks for the response El Ricardo. I have been working hard on this car and what I don't need is looking forward to getting responses from people that know much more than I do, going to my computer, signing in, hoping to get a nugget that gets my car back on the road only to find someone joking at my expense.

If you look at the pump, it should be marked with a + and -. The terminal with the larger nut is the ground.

Reading his comment , I think it was simply just a joke to be an honest and not at your expense at all.
