In LA next weekend - anything happening ?

I'll be in Los Angeles from Friday 21 through to Wednesday 26 July, mostly working Monday to Wednesday but I have the weekend off.

Looking at the stickies I seem to have made a cunning plan to have a weekend free in LA that misses anything happening by a week or two. Week earlier I would have gone up to Monterey Classics, a week later I would have gone up to Laguna Seca to watch Kibort race.

At the moment I don't have a hire car but that can organised, my stay is a little unconventional as I'll be staying (I think) at least some of the time in a hotel that has yet to open so unsure of exactly what facilities will be available if any other than a bed and hot water.

Please let me know if there is anything going on formal or otherwise as I don't really feel like Disneyworld or other tourist traps.

PS I'll be in Waikiki HI Tuesday 18 to Thursday evening 20 if there are any 928 owners local that want to meet up.

Stop by 928 International, they are based in Anaheim.

The new Porsche experience center is now open in Carson,Ca. No 928s available but still might be fun if you have the time and want to check the new models.

Rent a slingshot (or bike if you have a licence) and go drive Mulholland Hwy or Los Angeles Crest Road. You can rent from Eagle Riders close to Los Angeles International Airport.

Takes me less than 90 minutes from Thousand Oaks.

Just be sure your budget can handle what you want to bring back, it will be a lot :)

Jon, where are you going to be in LA? That'll dictate to some extent your options. Turns out (of course) there's an app that makes side-by-side comparisons to show scale- If I leave my house, stop at Greg's, then to Dr. Bob's old haunt, then to the Petersen, then back home, the path on the left is then superimposed on Sydney on the right.

There are quite a few car museums in great LA area, Peterson being the crown jewel as noted. Quite a few Cars and Coffee type events where some neat stuff shows up.

+1 for Porsche Center in Carson but it is NOT cheap.

"Porsche" and "cheap" never appear in the same sentence. It's a given.

Jon --

Sorry we aren't there anymore to host your visit. Getting around any major city in the world is a challenge during normal commuting hours, much easier the rest of the time and for sure on weekends. Have fun there!

As the good Dr suggests, make sure to plan your day around traffic as it will make a BIG difference on your LA experience.

These are worth checking out;

Wally Park NHRA Motorsports Museum

It has NHRA in the name, so you know there will be historic drag cars on display, but there’s actually much more than just that to this museum. A longtime dream of Wally Parks, one of the founders of the NHRA and structured drag racing as we know it as well as being the first editor of Hot Rod magazine, the NHRA Museum honors all forms of hot rodding from street cars to Indy cars and land speed racers. One of the best times to show up is the evening of the first Wednesday of every month for the Twilight Cruise—there’s always tons of great cars that show up and the museum stays open.

Pomona CA, not far

Automobile Driving Museum

Welcome to the Automobile Driving Museum, one of Southern California’s premier destinations for car enthusiasts! With a museum filled with a changing selection of its 130 vintage, antique, and vintage automobiles on display, museum visitors experience a wide range of vehicles from years gone by. The Museum is committed to the preservation and maintenance of these vehicles. We offer:

Rides in Museum cars on Sundays
Research Library
Museum Store
Events at the Museum

The Automobile Driving Museum (ADM) is a unique venue for auto enthusiasts. Not only is the museum filled with over 130 vintage, antique, and muscle cars; but is also the only museum that takes you for a ride in them.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Been a busy few days since we left Aus. But today we had a day off and made it to the Griffith Observatory then cruise down Sunset and Hollywood Bld, in the rented Mustang, too bad it isn't the V8 , only the trubo 4 ecoboost but it goes OK.

Tommorow looks like being either the Automobile Driving Museum or San Diego depending on my colleagues ability to get a ticket for ComEcon that is apparently going on there. If it happens I'll just mooch around SD - mooching around being my thing.

I will make it to 928 Intl on wednesday as I have the whole day free to get from Argyle Ave back to the Airport for a 18:00hrs flight.
