6-speed Transaxle kit for Renegade-equipped 928's
For our friends with a Renegade Hybrids' LS-motor in their 928:
Working with the assistance of Scott at Renegade, we have been able to put together a kit to place the Corvette T56 6-speed into the 928.
To accomplish this, we started with our 6-speed kit that installs the T56 6-speed into the 928 and preserves the entire 928 suspension, and to that we add a custom-length torque tube and driveshaft.
The stock Z06 Torque tube is mounted in a jig and rotated so we can cut the bells off of each end. Then an all-new, longer, center section is put into the jig, then bell housings are clocked up, and welded in place. We mount the shifter box in the 928's location, and you are ready to go.
After these actions, the bolt-up of the Chevy TT and trans to the Chevy clutch and engine is a breeze with a combination of our parts and parts from Renegade.
We have two Renegade-equipped 928's receiving transaxles right now, and another one in production for a customer. Expect delivery in about 4 weeks from the date of your order.

Here are a couple Torque Tube photos.
The first shows the stock C5 ZO6 Torque Tube connected to a foam Chevy LS1 block (mock-up engine courtesy of Renegade Hybrids)
The second shows the torque tube after we have machined off the bells on each end, and the third shows the new, longer torque tube ready to install. (Bottom of the picture)

I would want this bad boy if I swapped a corvette engine into a 928. Anyway, the kit looks great and I hope this creates a great working relationship with you and renegade.

What would really be great is: Auto to Manual conversion kit for all those slush boxes out there!

Why the longer tt? The ls engine is shorter than 928 v8 I figured it would sit further back for better weight balance? So the ls is in same spot, requiring a longer tt?

If it has a Corvette engine and entire Corvette drivetrain, over 50% of the vehicle's parts are Corvette.
The world seems terribly concerned about being polite regarding people's choices about their sexual identification....and this could be considered to be virtually the same thing.
Is the "politically correct" thing to call these cars Transvettypes?
Or if all the powertrain is swapped should we just identify this gender change a Corvette?
PCA certainly mo longer recognizes this car a Porsche....and they certainly are an authority....
Very confusing stuff, for me. But keep in mind that I'm a conservative in California (the land of fruits and nuts), so I start each day very confused.

I first bougt my 928 for the style and design of it...i was clueless about the engine ..transmission etc etc and other workings of it. It was the design that drew me to it. Just a cool looking car!
The car looses a huge part of its genetic identity when things are swapped like this, but the design presence of the car still remains....you dont see many of them on the road, and when you do , you notice!
Its great that this option is out there!

You are quite correct that the LS1 engine is smaller in every dimension than the M28 motor. I think the difference is the firewall position in the body for both cars. Corvette placed the engine further back to begin with, and the TTube is pretty short as a result when I get them. That's one reason they need a bit of lengthening to fit into the 928.
The other reason is the torque tube adapter that we are taking out, shown in a picture below. That adapter is normally supplied by Renegade to adapt the Chevy bell housing onto the Porsche Torque tube, and it is 8.25 cm long. In addition there is an adapter plate to hold the hydraulic TOB added, and it is another 1.62 cm thick.
In the case of installing our Transaxle kit to the Renegade/Chevy setup, both of these adapters are being removed. So I am adding the extra length they made up to my Torque Tube and driveshaft so it becomes a straight bolt-up for my customers.
