Yeah, I took the pictures in a hurry and didn't tidy it much. The carpet, except around the console is faded, but for the most part intact. And obviously I have the pod torn apart to fix the guages.

This car has had over the years some strange electrical issues. I can't keep the battery charged, which is obviously an issue for the starting. A year or two before I stopped driving it regularly, I had my mechanic (who was a former Porsche dealer chief mechanic and trained on 928's when they were new) go through and do a TON of electrical work. Mainly if I can get my gauges to work and get it started, I would go through and do coolant, oil, plugs etc and make sure it runs consistently. Running safely first, then think about cosmetics.

Ok, here's my $0.02. Worth about that much, too.

It's an S2. The last of the 16v cars, and the best (not necessarily most popular or valuable).

There were only about 500 or 600 of them grey-marketed into the US, so it's a pretty rare car. God only knows how many are still on the road. (I have one).

This one will take a lot of work to make "nice". As noted, it needs "all three" of the main departments. Paint, interior and mechanical. Most 'bottom feeders' try to get cars with two of the three in decent shape.

Nothing wrong or unethical about selling it "as is", as long as the buyer knows the truth about it. Saying "it ran great when I parked it, it just needs a fuel pump" is pretty common. Not 'truthful', but common.

It's likely that someone on here would be interested in it as a project for around $1k. You aren't going to get much more from anyone who knows what's what. However, the person who buys it may well intend to part it out.

It likely has $2k-$3k in parts on it. That does mean dismantling, marketing, selling, packaging and shipping all the parts. It would entail a similar amount of work as fixing it up would.

Soooo...

Options are:

Sell as is. Maybe $1k.

Part it out. Likely more money, but a lot of work and time.

Fix it to running condition. Then either drive it or sell it. Hard to ball park either money in or money out with that. Depending, you may break even selling it. Maybe.

Fix to "good" status. Paint and interior in addition to mechanical. Big bucks. Easily $20 in. Unlikely to sell for that right now.

Personally, I'd hate to see it parted. Body looks solid and straight. Lots of 'potential'. But I don't have the money, time nor inclination to take it on myself, so you have to decide what you want to do.

I'd take it off your hands if I get to move to Omaha.

The right thing to do, clearly, is find someone who will save it, someone who knows what that will entail, or if not, the necessary combination of intelligence, foolishness and persistence. In either case, someone with garage space. Accept whatever he offers. You'll be happy, the buyer will be happy (eventually), the 928 community will be happy, and the car will be happy.

As a Euro fan, I hope you refresh it or pass it on whole to someone who will refresh it.

As a Euro owner, Id love to have those tail lights if you decide to part it

Good luck either way.

I forgot to say that there's a strong possibility that I'll become much better off financially in the next couple years (job promotions, debt paid off, etc). In which case I'd definitely be more inclined to fix it to at least driveable condition. Or polish it up so it at least looks "ok."

I don't know if I made it clear, I have a garage behind the house off an alley, but for some reason a previous house owner made a driveway up to the front of the house, where the car is sitting now. Since the car isn't starting reliably, I'm keeping the garage out in case I need to put the family car in shelter in case of hail.

Did you buy yours in Omaha? Does or did it have racing stripes and a loud exhaust?

I guess it all comes down to what you want from the car..Show it? Sell it? or Drive it to death?...
.I picked up an '83 euro 5 speed 8 years ago for what I consider very Cheap...$3500 CASH for a 'drive it home' car...Anyone who has seen it at FRENZY last year and the year before can testify that I have the RATTIEST 928 they ever see...But it runs like 'Forty Bears"...The 'Cobalt Blue' respray is wearing off. clear coat is about 60%..The interior was redone in blue/ white and is still in fairly good shape....
I didn't get mine to show or sell it later....Saving your car for the next buyer is like saving your wife for her next husband LOL
I just wanted a nicely turned out example of a 35+ year old GT car with 170K miles on it, that I own outright...So far I've got about $6k in parts in it, and I'm almost done with it mechanically ( SO FAR). Motor mounts, oil pan gasket and rear parking brakes still to go,,,Now to make it 'Pretty'. I'm going to wrap it for now. and do a 'proper' paint job on down the road...There's NO WAY I can buy a new car with similar performance and head turning style for $11,000!! They only made 719 Euro 5 speeds in 1983, and I have one!!!
It's a shame for a 928 to 'be sent to the crusher', just because it's 'economically unfeasible' to turn it into a 'Show Car' or make money selling it..
The Famous quote .."I designed my cars to be Driven not polished" holds true....
They don't maker cars like this anymore, and they NEVER will....

Your car is awesome. The Monster and the Lump are two of my favorite Sharks. We missed you at Frenzy this year.

Cars with "Patina" and "Rat Rods" are all the rage these days at car shows!

I have gone to the Cavalino Ferrari event a bunch of times at the Breakers in Palm Beach (snob city). Most years someone bings a trashed Ferrari of some sort that is un-restored with peeling paint and a blown apart interior...

Crowds gather around and interest is tremendous for the cars...

I like all ends of the spectrum when it comes to 928's, the important thing is to be having fun with them!
