Default 2017 Wilbraham Tech Session and VCSSA Hillclimb event July 8, 2017 - UPDATE

Hey 928'ers !

The VSCCA hill climb event is happening again this year and the organizers have asked if I might be able to scare up group of Porsches for the mid-course field.
My plan is to once again focus the 928 centric part at the barn and then make trips to the field during breaks in the hill climb action.

I apologize for the late announcement but I had reservations about committing to this because I felt that the 2015 event did not have enough vintage hill climb competitors (only about 10) to make it worth watching for more than a hour or so. This year they assured me they have 22 entrants and the numbers is climbing.

The basics of this event will be much like all previous Wilbraham tech sessions. You can attend the hill climb , or just hang out at the barn and socialize. The barn shop will be available and the lifts will be empty for anyone that might want to use them.

Food and beverages will be provided throughout the day at the barn. I believe there will also be a vending truck in the field at the hill climb.

As always, this event has a 928 focus but it is open to anybody and any special interest car. We have all pretty much seen each other's 928's by now so different car brands and types bring some interest to the event. I'll have my 40' ford coupe, 69' Camaro , Healey hotrod, Model T and dunebuggy out there to get the oddball section started :>)

More info to come as updates come in!

Thanks and I hope to see you there
Tass

Hi Bob, Dave & Tony

Yes I suppose it would have been helpful of me to mention the date

Our event is July 8th, a Saturday. The timing is pretty much up to attendees as I will be out in the garage early AM moving cars and setting up. Come early and have some coffee and doughnut.

Some of the hill climb details are listed in Dave's link above and I'll be getting more info as the days go by. There will be no cost to any of us for attending the event on Saturday as we had a good showing last year and are considered to be one of the "attractions" .

Bummer - I really want to go, and will be in the neighborhood travelling back from NC to MA with the family - but they won't be up for stopping after 12 hrs in the car. Hope to make one of these some day. It's always a good time at "the barn".

LOL.

This year, can we have a place to park that's not flammable?

Couple videos from last hill climb we attended in 2015. The roar you hear in the beginning is Tass' "never been on the track..track car"

I am going like last time, it was a lot of fun to see all the 928 people and cars and attend the hillclimb. Tass puts on a GTG second to none, the food, barn, and good times are as good as it gets.

I just had a discussion with the organizers about that and told them it needs to be mowed like a lawn, not mowed like they were baling hay.

Funnier in hind sight than it was at the time.......Stan heading for the hills when we smelled burning grass under his car Then the race guys frantic radio traffic to "stop the action on course...one of the Porsches escaped"

I'm being told that Wayne Carini will be attending again this year but with much more involvement than last time.

They are going to bring their own car (a packard I believe) and the production crew to film an actual episode or segment for his show. It should be interesting and kind of ramps up the exposure for this event.

Now we need to work on him to make his way up to the barn and hang with us !

Well, those "Porsches" are like Grayhounds and the hill climb cars were kinda like mechanical rabbits.

I'm not sure what we do with one if we catch it though.

I suspect that my lower rear belly pan was super hot from the cats,
and with it pressing on the now dried out grass,
(NOTE In the morning we drove into the field and the freshly cut grass was wet so not too much to worry about.)
smoke was wafting into both of my open windows and as soon as I stopped it got worse.

I immediately gassed the car back out to the road to get some airflow under the car.
Since I did not know if the cut grass could have been getting raked by the belly pan,
It was too hi to look under the car while in the grass.

Yes it was a scare
