Default Warehouse find - 87 Engine and partial torque tube

M28/41 (manual) Serial Number 00679 Missed being a squirter block by 2. No biggie.

Had been sitting in a company warehouse in Hueytown, AL for about 20 years under a tarp. It was cut out of the PO's car after he wrecked it. Now it's in my driveway.

And I really mean cut out. Cut harnesses, cut hoses and cut plumbing.

Cool to have a donor motor though for a rebuild/refresh.

Hopefully they drained the coolant!

Of course they didn't. Doing a full tear down today. Removing the remnant of TT was a lot of fun. I'll have it down to the engine today and pull the heads tomorrow. That's where I expect to find surprises.

Interesting find.

I suppose that this is M28/41 81H 00679, then.

Wow! Shocked they didn't sell it on back then. I wonder why they just let it sit? Any idea of the mileage when the car was wrecked?

No idea on the mileage. But, the cam and oil gears are pristine. And the bolts I remove are brand new - the anodizing on the threads is perfect. Engine has sat for 18+ years. A lot of corrosion. I am thinking the engine sat outside under the tarp.

The car must have taken a really hard hit on the DS corner. When I removed the alternator and PS cassette there were three tiny portions of the block that were broken. No apparent damage to the alternator. That explains why it was 'cut' out.

I'll have the cam covers and possible the heads off today or tomorrow.

The crank bolt and washer.
