I'm back!!!
Please!! No wisecracks from those who tend to make fun of old people. Your comments are simply an indication of those who are lacking in manners.
Some of you folks may remember me - it's been quite a while. I'm the geezer who purchased a brand new 928S4 in Germany when my wife and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We are now past our 50th by almost five years. We still have the car and we've been through three so-called mechanics in trying to get the car to start. One gentleman responded to our plea and offered us a pretty good idea that the problem is in the leads from the brain to the injectors; i.e. that there is a short in one of those leads and it grounds out the brain. That sure sounds like the answer but, at almost 82 years old I don't play with cars any more (prefer woodworking/furniture making). Anyway, the last "mechanic", after almost two years and $700 later gave up. I suspect he did not read the letter from the gentleman and proceeded to lose the only copy.
I have two requests of anybody who thinks he may have a clue regarding this problem. Firstly, if that gentleman reads this, could he please get in touch with me? After dealing with those who don't have a clue, it would be most helpful if he would repeat his original diagnosis. My email is as follows:
bjbpe.engineer@gmail.com
My second request:
I am at the point where I would be happy to ship the car to someone who is a true expert at fixing the 928S4. I live just outside of Laramie, WY and would be happy to ship it to someone who would come highly (truly highly)recommended. The Porsche dealer in Denver refuses to service the car (so you can understand that I do not recommend him). Reasonable distances could run as far as California, I suppose, or possibly even St. Louis.
I really appreciate any help one could send me.

Barney, good to see you back.
I suspect that I may have offered advice, but don't know if I'm the gentleman you seek.
Any recollection of a user name.

Do you know if the intake refresh was ever done?
How many miles does the car have ?
If the injectors are not firing then maybe a shorted wire,
so a new set of injector connectors could be installed,
BUT replace the 3 running relays first

Hey, Barney. Great to have you back. I have especially missed you, but I wont say why right here. As to the S4, I don't remember reading anything about it before, but my first reaction is that you may simply need a new LH computer. I suspect that "that gentleman" might very well be Stan Kohlen aka MrMerlin. I'll send you one of my spare LH computers if you don't have another one to try in your car.
Welcome back.

Hi and welcome back. No wisecracks here.
I highly recommend a small independant shop in Newport Beach, CA. Very reasonable shop rates and he allowed me to provide the parts to him for my top/front end refresh. Don't know if that is helpful to you or not.
Heck I might be willing (schedule permitting) to help out and drive the car out to CA if you want. I'll fly up there and drive to CA for you.
I really trust the mechanics at DDK motors on Birch Street. Owner's name is Don.
3975 Birch St # H, Newport Beach, CA 92660
(949) 852-9132
PM me if you have any questions about my experience with that shop. Glad to share. It is far away and you should be able to find another shop closer to you. But let me know. No affiliation with the shop except as a satisfied customer.
Cheers,
Rich

Barney, we exchanged email last year with some ideas on things to check. I'll send it again just in case that's what you are looking for. The problem then was that it cranked OK and started briefly on starter fluid, but wouldn't run on its own. LH was rebuilt and tested OK on another 928, fuel pressure good, spark good, everything OK except the injectors weren't firing. Is that all still correct, as far as you know?
I was thinking injector-harness or ground problems. But good ideas are not the issue, at least around this place.
So the dealer's useless. Absolutely shocking !!
What you need is for Stan (MrMerlin) to move back to Colorado, but that's probably unrealistic.
There's a bunch of Texas guys (and hopefully gals) driving to Spokane in July and going right past you. They just don't know it yet...
The problem with small furrin' car shops is that there are so many different goofy cars that no one can possibly know much about any of them. So they focus on the simple things, and hope the hard problems go elsewhere. And when they get a tough one, the basic "guy credo" kicks in: Never read the manual, never ask for directions. So it sits. Aaarrghhh.

I would buy a new harness from Roger @ 928rus and go from there if that is your issue; as it sounds like it is.
The harness wont get any younger so I would just bite the bullet and go for it.

Barney, the Rocky Mountain Sharks include 40 or 50 or more 928 guys, and probably you too, and I would think that with Stan gone now there must be some other source that they rely on for 928 maintenance. You might post on their Yahoo email forum and see what they come up with. I haven't seen much activity on that forum lately, but I'm sure that they all monitor.
P.S. I posted in the RMS YAHOO Group a request for help for your S4, so we will see in the guys there can come up with a source to help with your car. I see that there are about 80 in that Group. Are you one of them? If not you ought to join.

Barney, I posted your problem in the RMS Yahoo Group forum and the other guys have posted a plethora of good looking suggestions. The focus of all their ideas is pretty much in line with what the previous "gentleman" (Jim and Sue?) may have had to suggest.
Three or four of us are still suggesting that you try another known LH computer.
Several others suggest that there is likely a break or short in one of the wires to the injectors, and probably at a sharp bend right at or very near an injector. If one wire is cut or shorted it will kill all of the injectors.
Another guy said he solved this same problem in a 944 by resoldering all the wire joints at the PCB.
I had asked for suggested places in our closer area for you to try for repair, and someone suggests:
http://www.eurosportauto.net - - contact the owner Dan who is said to be a great guy and knows 928s.
If you are in the Rocky Mountain Sharks you ought to be getting their posts yourself. If not I'll try to connect you with someone to help get you signed up.

Thanks to everyone who responded so quickly. Replacing the injector harness might be an answer to my problem. Firstly, how do I get hold of Roger again?. A couple of years away turns me into a complete dolt. As I recall it was somewhere in Texas.
Secondly, does anyone have a set of instructions for the replacing of that harness. I'll tackle it myself if the process does not have any spooks built in like "turn this screw and you will explode out of the magoogle". I will leave it up to you to define a "magoogle".

Another good suggestion I forgot to mention is that you ought to host a 928 Shark Party and see if any of the guys who show up can help diagnose and probably fix your car. I might even try to come.

Buy the harness and host the party.
