Default Trying to confirm all possible sources for water leak in left rear cargo area

I have been chasing a water leak in the cargo area that has been resulting in allot of water pooling in the spare tire well.

I stopped most of it by replacing the hatch seal and latch assembly but noticed that I had a trail of water coming from the under side of the left side quarter panel and draining into the spare tire well.

I immediately assumed I have a leak from around the left rear quarter window seal. I don't see any rust or issues around outside of the window.

Before I start buying seals and pulling a window I wanted to make sure there was not some other possible source on the left side of the car.

could be the screws that hold down the spoiler, trim. the seal washers/goop could be causing the leak.

I had the same problem and I replaced both rear quarter seals along with the hatch seal and now no more leaks.

Like Ducman82 said, it is a possible source, the Trim/Spoiler holes in the channel next to the hatch glass.

First is to remove all the Interior trim surrounding the Hatch Glass, open hatch, keep it level, pour water onto glass and fill the channel, look inside all around.

Other tell-tail signs are the Hatch lights and if they are in a Rusted condition.

No spoiler on my car.

I just replaced the hatch glass in January and did have a leak around the glass where the previous installer did not properly install the old glass. I installed new trim hold down clips and the little runner seals that go below them. Still have the hatch inner trim off so will check that one more time before tackling the quarter window removal.

when you remove the quarter window seals use DC 111 on the metal surfaces that are under the rubber, this will prevent water from corroding the metal and leaking past the seals

I had the same problem when I picked up my GTS in Atlanta.
Drove the car back to DFW land in the rain and when I got home, it was soaked in the same area.

It did this several more times after I would wash the car.

Turned out to be the seals for the rear wiper.
Did a rear wiper delete with plenty of silicone.
It never leaked again.

I identified a leaking side Window om my girlfriends 944 by using black electrician tape over the Seal and glass. When that stopped the leak I tried the stuff below and it stopped the leak. Have used it many times afterwards. Strangely it always needs two applications to work, but the 944 has been dry for years now.

I had water pouring out of the luggage cover mounts on the hatch after my last wash. And, some time after a prior wash, I noticed that my hatch light burnt out and rusted. =\

Definitely need to do some of what's been suggested here.

Is there any consensus as to the importance of the rear wiper?

One of the donor cars for the Just Peachy project came without a rear wiper and only one I've ever seen. Rear wiper option on the new 991's rarely ordered. T

Yeah, I noticed that with JP and liked it. I also like it on Chuck's car.

Reasons I'd consider removing it: I dislike how it clinks against the glass when I close my hatch, it rarely rains in SoCal, it might be the cause of a leak I have, I accidentally turn it on sometimes when going for the window controls.

Reason to keep it: My car isn't like JP. It's pretty stock looking. Not sure I should start changing that.
