Default ID Of Lower Engine Stamping Numbers

Hello all, below is a picture of the engine ID on a 4.7 euro motor that is presently in an 84 euro S parts car that I bought about a year ago. The engine seems incorrect for the car. In the drivers door I remember seeing a placard indicating that the car was an 84.

Seems someone, some time in the past, pulled out the 310 hp twin dizzy motor with electronic ignition and dropped in a 300hp m28/11. Even the cam pulleys are the old type (82 or older). I was really hoping it was an 83 or later motor so I could use the later cam gears, etc.

Anyhow, back to my question. What do the lower set of numbers on the engine stamping mean. I cannot seem to find this information anywhere. I suspect that the 82 indicates the engine was cast in 1982. Any thoughts?

That's a '80-83 euro s CIS engine bottom end.
Euro s twin dizzy '84-86 should be M28/21 or M28/22.
As far as I know, the bottom number usually means the serial number for that particular series of engines, and they don't matter unless there is some important change within the engine series and it would be pointed out in either bulletin or in the parts manuals.

What's stopping you from using the updated later cam gears for 16v engines? Only the key styles change on the cam shafts and they shouldn't matter.

Hoi

M28.11 821 0618 is from a 1981 Euro/ROW S 5-speed.

Since there were about 653 '81 Euro S 5-speeds, this motor was assembled pretty late in the year, late spring of '82. For whatever that trivia bit is worth...

What FI system is on the engine?

Were square tooth gears ever made out of aluminum? Get steel gears and never worry about wear or anodizing or if $350 a set is a good deal.

Thanks for the help guys, you sure know your stuff. As I figured, someone swapped out the original motor. Who would go through such trouble? I bought the running parts car pretty cheap, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Automatic and no title. Interior was beat from the moon roof leaking. I had bought another 80 euro S like 2 years ago from a guy, but the guy hosed me and the motor needed a rebuild. Got two euro motors and parts everywhere!

I will check on those steel gears. I had hoped to just find a good used 83 or 84 4.7 motor to take the cam gears off of it. No luck, never see any on craigslist. The ones on eBay are generally new and expensive. Anyhow, thanks again
