Right side of gauges went out
PLEASE HELP!
I rebuilt the cluster in my 79 about three years ago. Everything works fine until today. Right side of the gauges, the tach, the oil pressure and the volts are out. All the tell tales and idiot lights work. But the gauges themselves don't work.
driving me nuts. Grounds are all fresh
any quick checks?

Check related fuses and relays.
If those check out, it sounds like one of the main wiring harnesses has come loose on the back of the cluster.

also pulled the 14 pin and all is good there as well. I thought I read about an ignition switch issue once but can't find the post.

One of the 3 main connectors that plug into the flex circuit at the back of the cluster has come loose. You can check and re-seat without pulling the pod. Small hands help ;-)

It's an odd issue. Seems to be intermittent. Gauges came to life on their own. Then the next time I turned the key off, they were dead again
Seated all three plugs with no change. Scratching my head......

Turns out that the tach, oil pressure and voltage gauge all share a ground on the printed circuit. It's also shared by the high beam indicator. I pulled the cluster and found the ground was nice and clean and had good continuity to the plug end. The ground from the plug end to the ground point under the column was also good and clean and had continuity. Plugged it all back in and everything functioned fine. Added a jumper ground to the third little nut on the back of the tach just for good measure. Works perfectly. The voltage gauge is no longer jumpy and reads higher now. All is well in the world. Thanks for all the help !!
