It looks nice and should clean up nicely. The car's got potential to be a stunner!
Good luck-Hoi

Rear deck has 4 holes where someone once thought a wing should go. Thankfully that was removed, but it sure would have been nice if they would have filled & repaired the holes.

rear deck also seems to be missing the surrounding trim piece for the lock. Would that have been chrome like the ones around the door locks? I'll have to look at some photos of cars here.

One of the rims looks to have a nasty scratch in the paint (hopefully not into the metal), so those will have to be refinished.

Rear bumper-ettes - I'd like to de-federalize it and put it back as originally built. This means removing those

Headlights - I don't believe these are the original Euro-style, correct? I need to do some research & find out what I need & where to get them.

I don't even want to get into the interior yet... I know that the driver's side bolster is typically worn, and it will need new seat foam & at the minimum, a piece repair. Dash is cracked in several places, and the pod has one crack. I'd like to find an excellent replacement, but it might not be possible to find any and repair may be the only option.

And mechanicals - well, I may have a 2nd gear syncro issue. I'll have to check into that closely when it arrives.
I don't know if it needs paint but it would be easier to purchase a complete early hatch w/glass. This will eliminate the S4 type rear spoiler holes and get you a clear view in your rearview mirror.02 T

The holes aren't impeding his vision, just offending his purist sensibilities.
Hold off 'til a repaint then repair with a proper fill-weld-grind-smooth.
No need to throw the baby out with the bathwater. It is after all an original bit to the car.

When do transport trucks always arrive? In the dark, of course.
Tomorrow I'll wash off all the road grime and get a closer look at I've gotten myself into.

I couldn't hold my son back. 2 minutes after he saw it, he's claiming that it's his car! lol!

black & brown fabric. I wasn't sure, since you know how fabric will fade. But I've heard that it WILL be reproduced & available sometime this summer.

Home in the new garage. I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep; my OCD is killing me knowing how dirty it is.

Some things that I noticed on the very short trip (about a mile) home:
It runs REALLY well!
It needs a new muffler.
I think the alternator isn't charging.

The interior surprised me. I like the "mottled" brown color of the dash & console very much! Unfortunately, the dash is horrible & will have to be replaced. The console has 2 small holes on the passenger side (screws) that I hope can be filled so it can be saved. The door panels seem ok, other than a small crack I saw on the driver's side. The interior just needs some attention.

I know it's early, but I like the colors & "vibe" of this '78 MUCH more than the '82 Weissach and '85 5-speed cars that I had in the past!

Congrats and look forward to what you have in store for this OB. The interior for the Just Peachy project came from a (totaled) 1979 with 12,xxx actual miles. This OB was stored indoors all of it's life and the seams connecting the side bolters still kept coming apart. Had the base cushions out twice for repair but they did not hold. Would have preferred the blk/tan but it was NLA at the time. Rob Budd reupholstered with blk/tan and happy with the results. Purchased extra blk/tan material believing it to may soon become NLA. You mentioned someone will be mfg the blk/brn and agree with Alex of that combo being our fav of the pascha's. T

What? I haven't heard of this modification. Now I have to spend hours in forum search mode!

On the other hand, it may not be a bad alternator. It may be a case of a knee bumping light dimmer control during a 1 mile drive. It's been about 12 years since I've had a 928, and my skills are a bit rusty. lol!

Does the '78 have a hatch release button? I could have sworn that my others had one to the left of the driver's seat, but this one has the headlight aiming **** there.

What other OB oddball stuff am I going to find?

No hatch release until 84.

What a deal! Wish I could stumble across finds like that!

Do you remember how much pascha fabric it took to recover the 4 seats & door panels? I assume with the pattern, it takes a little more to make sure everything lines up where it's supposed to.

Ben, Start with deep cleaning your rear seats/door inserts (they get little use) before deciding to reupholster them. Rob or ? will know how much fabric is needed once you figure that out. When Just Peachy's front seats were reupholstered, the bolsters and seat backs were wrapped in new vinyl. May want to consider doing those brown bolsters with leather..ooh-la-la Look forward to more pics once you have her cleaned up. T
