Hi All

Looking at rebuilding my early Brembos, the ones with the scraper seals. Piston diameters are 42, 30 & 28mm diameter. The scraper seals look to be std hydraulic type wipers, not keeping pressure in just dirt out. OEM items are expensive and seem to only come with pistons so looking at individual seals from hydraulic suppliers. Does anyone know the groove dimensions (OD and depth)to see if a std seal is possible - I haven't got as far as ejecting pistons removing seals yet so haven't got the dimensions.

Yup, hence why looking at generics parts. Brembo start at ~£50 uk per piston and seal. x16 is a lot of money. I had once quote for a full set of parts at $1384 that's excluding any of the other costs of refurbishing..

Have you called Rober @ 928's R Us or Mark Anderson at 928 International?

A quick search shows other "generic" kits are available sold to rebuild Centric, Brembo and other brand calipers with similar sized pistons.

But problem is Paragon only sell the 30mm dust seal needed, and they imply Brembo only makes 30mm and 38mm sizes for the older style dust seals. This just underlines the problem finding parts for the early Brembos, and at sensible prices. The later style prices are much cheaper even from Brembo, and there are very good quality third party versions even cheaper as I used them for my refurb job on MY 91.

Maybe Roger or Mark will turn up trumps on this one?

Nope, lucked out with Roger too; for scrapers only option seems to buy the whole piston seal scraper kit from Porsche $$$$. Pressure seals are available as pattern parts so I am thinking of disassembling, cleaning and inspecting before deciding what to do. Will post pics...

Still think there ought to we a source of wiper seals from elsewhere in hydraulics industry..oh well

Make sure the scrapers from the hydraulic industry can live in an automotive environment.

Are your existing scrapers (dust seals) too damaged to be reused?

Yes indeed. Need to do some research on materials and operating temp etc.

That's what I was thinking...if they still work...and its not a race environment..these should operate for a LONG time still.

This is an old problem, finding rebuild parts for certain size Brembo pistons. I could have sworn the aftermarket industry came up with something, I'll be damned if I can find it though.

I am certain that you can buy the seal sets only on eBay. Made by Centric.

The issue with the Porsche/Brembo is they come with the actual piston - hence the price.

You can also get the centric kits from Rock Auto.

If I remember it correctly, though, the front caliper kits are for the 42mm/36mm front calipers rather than the 44mm/36mm ones.

If you really do have 42/36 front calipers then let me know as I think I have one of their kits somewhere in the garage.
