Default 1979 #168 Transformation from OB to GB-928

Bought another car from across the country (I will never learn) and had it shipped directly to Precision Motorwerks from Portland Oregon for its transformation from an 37 year old red/black OB into the ultimate 928, the GB-928!

This car has a salvage-reconstructed title due to some history of damage, and it sat under covers for several years due to likely head gasket failure. However, the interior was seen to be in decent shape, along with good looking seats and original radio. Sorry no interior pics now, but I am sure they will turn up soon enough.

I had spent the past 6 months gathering parts for it, and they are now located in Greg's shop awaiting for the special touch.

So far, Greg has removed the engine and the entire drivetrain.

The black stuff does not wash off.

Not sure if even mineral spirits would take off all of that undercoating...without eventually dulling the paint.

What are you looking for...as far as...a end result?

Looking forward to seeing the interior.

Good luck, with your new project.

Brian.

Although they will be very expensive, we (me) are going to make those super rare option mud flaps available to someone doing a complete restoration.

If you need to get some rivets cad plated for use with these uberflaps, the correct P/N is 999 190 114 30.

I believe only the 1978 mud flaps were riveted. Ive been told that in 1979, they used special phillips headed screws.

I'll get a picture of what they used.

These pictures were taken before her pressure wash, yesterday.

No signs of any reason for this car to have a salvage title. The only non original piece on the entire car seems to be the left front fender. Perhaps it was stolen and recovered early in its life?

I will bet the pressure wash has returned this chassis to pristine condition,
most of it looks like brake dust and dirt that has stuck into the cosmoline.

On Hoi`s Weissach chassis, I hand scrubbed it clean looked just like this.

Goodluck on your new project it couldnt have gone to a better place than Precision Motorworks

Looks like undercoating to me...you can see where the coil spring blocked it from hitting the inner fender. I don't believe brake dust would be so discriminant.

Regardless, it will take a bit of cleaning nonetheless.

Brian.
