Default Porsche 928s (86.5) Dash connector

Hi, I removed the pod to repair the odometer and didn't label the two connectors at the back of the cluster on the right hand side . One attaches vertically and the other horizontally. Can anyone tell me which connector goes where. Pictures attached.

I assume you have a +'83, I don't believe either one would fit the other, the wires pretty much hold true to form with age, so if it seems to be a tight stretch to make the connection, it may not be correct.

hi, it's an 86.5. Both connectors seem to be the same length which makes it even more confusing.

I digress, it's been a few years since I was in there, but I'm pretty sure they are keyed to only fit the proper connection., be easy with those locking tabs, they break easily.

Might be hard to tell as each harness will have 17 wires. In the WD each harness is labeled A, B, and C. B & C are the right sided ones. Look to see if there is any markings on the receptacles that may help. The 'C' harness will have a White/Blue wire at pin 1 on one end and a Brown at pin 17 on the other end. Another thing that could help is the orientation of the wires. In you first pic the 'C' harness has it's wires twisted 90 deg, and the 'B' harness has it's wires spread flat. Maybe this is an indication for the one that lies horizontal, and the twisted one stands vertical.

Could be vice versa, but old wires have a 'memory'. See which you think would 'orient' to the receptacle best.

Correction: It is harness 'B' not harness 'C' with the White/Blue wire at pin 1. If it helps this harness 'B' connects to the receptacle that feeds the speedo and upshift indicator.
