Question for guys running 044 pump with relay and new wiring.

I'm running -10 wire from the positive side of the 044 pump to the relay. Do i need to run a new, thicker guage wire from the ground side of the 044 pump to a new ground location or can I just use the ground wire that was on the original pump?

I believe common electrical guidelines recommend the ground wire be at least the same gauge as the power wire. I'm sure our electrical experts will know better than me, but that is what I remember reading in electrical books.

Cheers!

Certainly if you are running 10ga wire for power, you need to beef up the ground side also. Otherwise it will look silly.

The factory wiring is 2.5 mm^2 on the power side and 2.0 on the ground side. (That's roughly 13ga and 14ga respectively). I think the primary consideration was voltage drop (the stock pump doesn't have a lot of headroom, flow-wise). Shorter wires can be smaller, as long as you don't exceed the max amps for the wire size (around 30 amps for 14ga wire).
