86 5 speed M220 in Baltimore u-pull-it
LKQ bought out a a local u-pull-it and has modernized their operations so you can now check for inventory online instead of tramping through the yard (or flying a drone over it) to see what is there.
I found out yesterday that an 86 928 had just arrived at one of the yards. With visions of sugarplums, $5 intake tubes, $15 calipers and numerous other holiday treats in our heads, Robin and I set off this morning to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Pictures of what we found are below. Showing that every rule has an exception, this car still has the jump post cover. Everything under the hood was severely corroded and the hatch glass had been shattered at some point so the interior was a sodden mess. Thanks to a steady rain, lack of a thin 27 mm wrench, rust welded and stripped fasteners and an early Christmas Eve closing time, I even gave up on taking the radiator.
Running the VIN does, however, reveal that the five speed should have an LSD, and if you feel like pulling it in the dead of winter, it is yours for $150 ($90 on New Year's Day). The original manhole covers are still on, are in nice shape and would polish up well. Front spoiler is not intact and there is no front grill. I would go back for the trans but I teach skiing on weekends and holidays all winter and just don't have the time.
VIN is WP0JB0928GS860262 so the calipers are of no interest to me. The yard charges $15 a caliper.
This is the first 86 I have have ever seen with the fan warning sticker on the condenser.

It is an 86, which is why the calipers don't interest me. Also confirmed by the lack of lift points underneath. I didn't know the VIN until I got to the car and read it off the door jamb. VIN plate under the hood had rotted away.

I don't have much interest in most of it.
I may be able to go pull some parts for someone though.
Not a for sure thing, but I will need to be in Baltimore that day.
Pm me.

Wow. It is SO sad to see it in such a horrible condition...
And that is the most corrosion I have ever seen on a 928!
So after all that you didn't grab the jump post cover Otto?!?

This car reminds me of the other off red 86.5 5 speed that was being sold last year up in Edison NJ,
it cranked and would fire with some fuel in it but it had mold inside and it was solidly corroded from the ground up,
the trans was white with corrosion,
the guy that bought that car posted about it a few times and has not been heard from since.
Does anyone remember the screen name of the guy that bought that red car he posted a few questions about it
