1985 Stereo White Wire/ Amp remote turn on?
Hi all,
I'm in the middle of replacing my entire stereo in my 1985 928S. This one has the factory original Monterey SQR23 and the factory Blaupunkt amplifier next to the passenger seat.
The question I have is about the white wire connected at the back of the radio. In the earlier cars with no external amp and a power antenna, this wire used to be the power antenna lead. On slightly later cars with the windshield antenna and a booster, the white wire was for the booster amp. In both of these cases, the wire would be hooked up (I think) to the antenna wire of the head unit, which in most cases is blue with a stripe.
On the later cars with the separate amplifier, however, I notice that the amplifier has a remote turn on wire that is also white, and appears to come from the radio ( I suppose where else would it come from). There is only one white wire on the back of the radio, though. Therefore, I assume that Porsche started wiring the cars so that the remote turn on for the amp AND the antenna booster were wired together in the white wire. Since the antenna lead will shut off when the unit is not set to "radio," I have to assume that the white wire now must be connected to the remote amp turn on lead (solid blue on most aft market harnesses). Am I correct?
