High pressure pwr strg line
Im in the middle of rebuilding the steering rack (thx Colin)and replacing associated parts (tie rods, bushings, bellows etc) as well as the hi pressure line with a brand new piece.
Do I have to remove the alternator to remove the pressure line or can it be replaced with everything in situ?
TIA

It can be done, but access to the PS pump from underneath is way easier with the alternator out of the way.

I'm reasonably sure I couldn't have got to mine, but clearance seems to vary a bit, car to car.

Suggest you drop the alternator and then take some pics given I want to do this in my upcoming winter maintenance programme this year.
Also let us know how much knuckle skin you lose in the process!

You need to drop alternator to access pump banjo, but be very careful with car on lift as the alternator needs supporting! I've dropped alternator many times but only with car low enough that it can then rest on upturned box on floor.
Don't forget new crush washers at pump and rack, 2 per banjo.
The fan shroud needs lifting a few inches to provide clearance to withdraw long alternator pivot bolt. Before reinstalling alt you need to squeeze rear alternator bushing for this pivot bolt using a clamp, so that it slides back between mounting brackets. When I first did this job I was baffled why the alternator would not fit back in space it came from! I use G clamp and a socket to squeeze bushing.

I had Roger add 6 crush washers to my care package for the new line and the return line on the rack banjo.
