It is probably over engineering, but then Porsche usually has good reason for everything!
It holds the supply line neatly in place, maybe it prevents it rubbing against anything as hose fills, or maybe it's just strain relief so as not to pull on the joint where supply hose fits over banjo bolt?
The part is wire with circular shaped hook at end, and is several inches long.
You've managed so far with no calamity! Maybe get underneath and see if there's any risk of the supply hose abrading against anything? Even if it ruptured it's low pressure and low down, so I doubt there's fire risk as serious as with pressure hose near hot manifold.

Getting the old line out is not to bad......getting the new piece all lined up for the banjo bolt is something else. Had to take more apart, power steering pump cassette.
Line is loosely in situ as is the rack with new tie rods etc etc.......after everything is torqued and filled with oil I'll bleed the system and off down the highway.
Pics to come

Malcolm,
Is that a factory spare part or a locally revamped item?
Once you got the obstructing kit out of the way how do you rate the job difficulty wise in amateur hack terms?

I did the project solo but have a lift which is a great advantage. The most difficult part is getting the hose banjo bolts re-threaded.......I found it easier to leave the hose loose and not captured by the fender clamp, start the pump end bolt followed by the rack end bolt then the fender clamp.
I'd rate the project at a 6/10..........11 being the cross member solo

Thought it looked a bit too good for a hose shop. Having to look at options given Sterling is well down the toilet at the moment. Not looking forward to doing this on axle stands and my DIY liftbars. Trust it will work well for you.
On the positive side I just managed to wheelbarrow 300 patio paving slabs and 50 curb stones into my rear garden so getting some improved muscle tone on what's left after sitting on my derriere for the last year!
