One thing I forgot to mention is that there is an eerie unused feeling about everything on this car. The fuel cell was brand new, I am not sure there was ever gas in it. The suspension heim joints look unused as well. The tires were brand new as of 10 years ago, and still have the stickers on them. They lose air daily from being unused rather than wear.

It's like someone had this car ready to go....and then never raced it. Or even drove it. So I doubt wear is an issue at all. I think Bob Devore and Red McClintock built it up and then Bob died, and then it was mothballed.

Most of the stuff he developed is staying on the car, some of it is not. No doubt Devore was a smart guy, but some of the stuff he did was because the parts he was after were simply not available at the time.

The fuel system is one of those things: Four holley fuel pumps because most likely he could not obtain something like what we have today - a big Aeromotive A750 that can do the same thing.

I am somewhat reverent of Devore, but at the end of the day he is not Jesus and this is my car now. I think he would have liked to see it running with modern tech, since he seemed to be into that kind of thing.

I'll be posting pics of the engine as we go.

Right now, the heads are being CNC ported, and the steel cylinder liners are being put into the block. We are punching it out to 4.125" and using our billet steel stroker crank - a combination we have had real good results with.

The engine will be 6.57L when finished.

Glad to see someone finally grabbed this car. I wanted it but I have enough on my plate with projects, and resurrecting someone else's race car is quite a chore as I found with the Hanson car.
Was this the actual Devore car or a tribute done by that Maverick guy? There was so much controversy when it came to that name that I'm not sure what the outcome was on that story.

This is the actual Devore car according to the VIN, the Excellence article, and the fact that the last registered owner was actually Red McClintock!

Minor updates:

- Removed hatch key lock, installed hood pins to keep the hatch shut.
- Installed acrylic windshield
- Created a new switch and ignition panel
- Removed steering column lock and key start
- Added Carl's headlight stickers, or else the car would be blind!
- Still removing the retarded fake sponorship stickers. Mobile 1? Really? Did we even google this before we put it on the side of the frigging car?????

Whoops - Just saw this, will do later today.

Yeah it's a cool mod definitely. The wheels are 14" wide in the back with a little over 15" of rubber. Not possible on a stock arm, not even close

You should have gotten Greb Briwn to build you up an engine.
He's got some real nice custom cranks and has built up more monster engines than anyone.

As I stated earlier, I don't normally have ANYONE build me anything. I have been building Porsche motors for 25 years. My daily driver is a 2011 Camaro SS with 800whp that I built myself. The other 5 porsche I currently own feature motors I built: my 951, 914-6, 356, and am currently building the 930 engine that's going in my RSR clone. I am a hobbyist, not a pro, but I can build to pro level and I have a 3 axis CNC mill at home that can do just about anything.

Having said that, I was looking for someone with a lot of experience building 928 engines. Specifically, 928 racing engines. I don't think anyone has any more experience building such and engine...and - wait for it - actually racing their 928 than Carl Fausett. To me, he brings a very specialized skill set to the table, and he knows what works and what doesn't within the confines of the 928 platform.

Also, I wanted an NA engine. Anyone can slap a blower on a car, frankly. I am not averse to boost either. My 951 is boosted (330 whp), my 930 is boosted (600whp) and my Camaro is boosted (800whp), but this is NOT that car. Again, a nod to Carl.

Mark, I did read that as well, and believe it or not you and I did business about ten years ago. Big fan of 928 Int'l. I'll give you a ring within the next couple weeks to shoot the poop. Thanks for the help!

Through most of Bob's ownership it was driven on the street. At the end was it a dedicated track car?

Yes. Bob lived in nor Cal I believe when he bought the 928. It may have been new but I didn't know him then. We did have the same mechanic named Bud Hart which some of you here may recognize. I don't think it was until Bob moved to AZ that he retired it from the street and got crazy. He did buy a gold euro car to replace it as his street car.
