Air filter screen
Has anyone installed a screen at the front part of the intake? Above the radiator. I have found some unwanted guest in my intake! Any pics or suggestions?
Should I just do the Kuhn intake $$$$$ jk
Time to shop for new air filter......

I would try insect fiberglass mesh and either zip ties or a hose/gear clamp. The fiberglass is easy to cut and inexpensive.

I cut a couple circles of black window screen, about 6" diameter. They go over the nozzles at the top of the radiator, from the rear of the car towards the front, with the edges taped to the nozzles. I use black electrical tape. The air tubes slide over the screen and the tape, completely hiding it. I'm not sure it keeps big critters out. Well, maybe I am, since I haven't seen any elephant tracks on the air filter. I do know that a lot of bugs end up in the screens, rather than going all the way to the air filter.
For winter storage, I put a few mothballs in a ziplok sandwich bag in the front of each of those nozzles. The mothballs are sealed in the bags, yet there's enough fragrance leaching through the plastic to offend would-be invaders. The engine bay gets several more similar bags. They are tucked under the edges of the intake manifold, sit on the edges of the under-trays, a couple in front of the radiator, plus a couple under the edges of the cowl cover at the base of the hood.
I recommend that you put a known number of bags under the hood, and make darn sure you find and remove them all before you drive in the spring. If left, the bags then the mothballs will melt, sharing their wonderful fragrance with you as you drive.

Yes that pic was what I was looking for. I was thinking about placing a screen in the front radiator, or wrap the hard plastic end that the tub slides over.
thanks for the pics. Any other ideas would be great.

I used 3/8 hardware cloth (basically large mesh screen). Bigger holes than the screens shown above (better airflow), but smaller than chicken wire.
I'm more interested in keeping "critters" out, or really big bugs. Little ones on top of the air filter element don't worry me.
YMMV.

... I originally called them "mouse traps" because when I got my 928 I found the air filter had a chew hole in it and some mouse turds along with bug shells and bugs.

Thought about doing for the GTS what I had on my BoxsterS.
Dealer mechanic told me the radiators were the cleanest he has ever seen.
Boxters and similar 911s tend to also collect leaves in the corners where the radiators are.

My 91 doesn't have a lip around the air inlet. I have my 88 in distant garage so I can't see if there is a lip. Either way, I am going to use the gutter guard screen to bend into place, which can then be slid into the air duct inlet.
