If it all comes down to what people notice, then my 928 is a supercar. Everywhere I go, people stop and look at it, whether they're in their cars or walking about. And the nice comments and questions continue. i love talking to them, its fun mostly.
It doesnt take much, my indian red 86.5 with 18 polished rims and tint looks fairly slick and flashy, all for a cheap pricetag. I honestly didnt want red, but I just stumbled upon this one and its been fun for at least the looks.
I think its about attitude, you see I have always wanted a 928 and i feel great in one. People can see that exitement in a person who is exited about driving their 928 and want to know how they can get in on the action.
Of course theres alway the one loser who had to comment on buying american. Oh sorry pal, did i forget to mention that your olds has 90% of its parts made in mexico? And how does that help americans...? It just sounds like sour grapes to me.

Old thread, but fun read. Was reading an article about a few old cars on an upcoming auction. One of the cars was a Porsche 930 and they referred to it as Porsches supercar of the 80s. Have watched some other video reviews too that have referred to the 930 as a supercar. If something like a 930 can be called a supercar then where that puts the 928? Super grand tourer?

It would definitely be classed as a GT, probably lumped in with cars like the Ferrari 456 and W140 S500 & S600 Coupes.

Supercars should be judged against their peers (same era). Any car capable of 160+mph in the 80s, or even 90s, was pretty special then. Very few were capable of eating miles of autobahn at 150+mph for hours on end.

I'm not driving mine much now, due to parking conditions at work that make me nervous. However, I did take her in for three days this week (with precautions that I won't go into), using motorways / freeways that I don't drive much. The acceleration from higher speeds is quite nice . She definitely still has it - Engineering, style, comfort and pace. If it's good enough for Rebecca De Mornay ..
