Default Radiator Fans - Odd Behavior

Had an alternator belt failure a couple weeks back which surprised me with the amount of mayhem inflicted on other systems, culminating in the shearing of the hose neck from the passenger side rad tank.

Anyway, all reassembled now and running. Rad fans are now coming on full (both of them) as soon as the key is turned (AC not engaged), and both fans drop to low speed and continue to run with the ignition off. I've let them go for a half hour......

I've been controlling them with the hood switch, and after sitting for a while, I am able to close the hood and the fans stay off until the next ignition cycle.

Any thoughts on where this gremlin might be residing would be appreciated. Hopefully the main harness isn't screwed up..

TIA!

the temperature manifold switch has gotten wet and shorted,
remove one 0f the wires and it will shut the fans off till you replace the switch what year is your car?
On an S4 this switch is at the top rear center of the intake

Hey Stan,
Thanks for the response. Oh, it got wet....really wet ...... I suppose that there's now no chance it will dry out on it's own?
Will the fans run at all with the wire pulled from the switch?
It's a '90 S4 Auto.

IIRC, that switch requires a thin wall socket to torque too....

you can use a wrench its on top of the manifold, just make it snug its only reading temperature of the manifold.

the fans should still work via the sender on the front of the radiator .

but replace the switch it has been compromised
