How common is option 220 ?
I never looked at my option codes , until today when I backed into the grass and lo and behold both tires were slipping. Looked up the option code and I have option code 220 LSD. Is this a common or a rareity with the 87 M/Y Autos and what does this do to the tranny life?

The only two reasons I bought my '87 S4 Auto was the color and it had LSD. I didn't write the check until I put his car on a lift and spun one wheel with the car in neutral to confirm. I wouldn't own a sports car with out it after having it in my 951. It made all of the difference in that car so with plans of modifying the 928 I had to have it.

Hey guys/gals,
How common was the LSD in 1989? I don't believe mine has it....but I'll pray a little bit and look at my option codes one more time ;-)

Tim

Hi All,
I checked my option codes on my Shark and it appears I have the "open" differential no LSD for me. I suppose it is a PITA to upgrade, eh? No worries...haven't missed it yet. I wonder why it wasn't standard...one would think it would be on a GT of this caliber and expense. I seem to recall it was not a particularly expensive addition...
Best,

I don't know if my 928 has LSD or not, but my 944S does. The window sticker for my 87 944S shows the LSD to be a $2,000 option.

I can't say how much it added to an S4, it is in the standard equipment column of my GT's sticker. $2000 sounds really high
I also found that it wasn't very common on 944 turbos either. Interestingly it seemed that more of the '86 951's had the LSD than the '87-88 models, then it became common, if not standard on the turbo S.
I would think that it would be a couple grand to retrofit one. It might be easier to swap a LSD tranny in than to tear one apart.
I think part of the reason it isn't standard on most cars is that it can cause instability on slippery roads. Back when the cars were new, they didn't want a rep for the cars spinning while being driven by all those doctors wives.

My 85 Euro has it (LSD), as do many other Euro versions I've seen. For some reason, limited-slip seems like it's pretty common in Euro versions. As are sport seats for some reason - which my car also has. It's not just 928s either - a lot of Euro 911s and 944s I've seen also have factory sport seats and limited slip. But leather and AC seem to be the exceptions rather than the rules on the Euros.
It's just Porsche creating cars that appeal to the customers in Europe vs those in the US.

Both of my cars have them; I thought they were the rule rather than the exception...
Need more than one poll question, though. US cars, ROW, etc.
