You can return the tensioner pads if not needed.
As for the oil pins - to me that is a must as the old caps have a habit of falling out.
Before taking Roger up on his offer, you might want to see if there is someone else in WA who will buy the tensioner pads from you - no need to send them halfway around the world AGAIN

If you were to sell them, how much?

Hmmm let's see, what's $125 divided by 0.72 x 2? Not cheap these little suckers. I'd be interested in an exchange deal for a VGC expansion tank. Just sayin

edit: picked up "spline" drivers yesterday, #6 and #8, of course it appears I need #7 which or course they didn't have. Nnnnnh!

So finally got back to the task at hand. All back together (more than once I might add), kept forgetting things under the manifold which nearly did my head in. Anyways all came out ok, no leaks, bleeds at all which is nice. I am still getting hot unless I hotwire a fan. I think I may need a new staging gizmo. I will get the meter out tomorrow and see if I can see what's up. The first fan is pretty ordinary and sounds like it has some chunks flicking around inside the windings. Second one is fine but doesn't come on of its own accord.
Also have what I think is a big issue with the transmission. Sounds and feels like cavitation. Really thumps between gears up and down shifting under any sort of load. Fluid level is perfect by my reckoning. I'll get it over to the local Porsche guy and see what he makes of it, hopefully I haven't done bad things zooming around making loud noises with my right foot.
With the intake refresh I need a vacuum line plumbing diagram because I think I may have somethings wrong.
Same pictures as elsewhere, sorry , but we love pictures don't we.

Sounds like the vacuum line that runs from the engine, under the front bulkhead, then attaches to a hard line on top of the torque tube, runs along to the rear and turns back to a rubber line and finally connects to the vacuum diaphragm on the side to the transmission.

When I had my 86.5, that vacuum line got disconnected at the front connection above the torque tube and the transmission banged through the gears and even chirped the tires. Re-connected the line and all was good.

By the way, I would also find a plastic cover for the front electrical terminal. It will help protect it from water during rains and lots of head aches later chasing down shorts in your wiring harness.

HTH,
Constantine

Hi Gary

Agree with Constantine about the vacuum line. It runs from the multi connection spider "under the intake" back over the bell housing to the transmission. Mine came out once when trying to fiddle all the bits back in and I had the same issues. Re-fitted the vacuum and it ran fine.
Not sure we have to worry about the cover with the lack of rain we have had in the last 3 months. I assume you still have the part to refit?
Regards
Norm

Thanks Norm and Constantine. I've replaced the vacuum check valve which was broken and I'm sure I now have vac to the trans. No different really, maybe a little better. I found my fluid level way low though and went through the procedure for checking the level. Reckon I got about 1 litre into it. Next I'll drop the pan and look inside.

Hi Gary
If you are looking at the transmission find the vacuum line down that end and test with a vacuum pump to see if it will hold vacuum. My auto has leaked ever since I bought it and adding fluid has never made a difference in the shift but then I have never had to add a litre. Vacuum Line should be on left or passenger side for us.

So I got it on the hoist and did a few things. Yesterday, coolant leak at top hose, still have PS fluid leaking from under the tank. Reckon new hoses there are in order and topped up the trans bottle (again)!
i did some investigation on the vac line to the trans, it leaks so I ran a new tube all the way back there and made some temporary connections, cable tied to the trans oil lines. I don't have a vac tester so couldn't tell if I was successful or not, the ensuing drive suggests perhaps I was not. I'll get a vac pump and do it all over.
The list is endless on this thing.
