Default Small-town car hop

I carefully engineered this scene at my local car hop last night. I doubt many in attendance appreciated it fully, sitting amidst the muscle cars. I bet it is clear to the denizens of this forum.

Guess which car got a trophy.

The far two cars are Opel GTs. Seldom seen these days. The yellow one was just restored by a friend. In the early '70s, it was thought of as a German Corvette, or a mini-Corvette. So, the order left to right is Bugeye, bugeyed German Corvette, Corvette, German mini-Corvette. I don't know what I'd done if a Pacer showed up, but there was a pond nearby....

Alex wins on the trophy car, third place. Even muscle car guys are fascinated by it - not so much the 928 - but it's their wives that got me the votes. I had to drive it home in the dark for the first time - the headlights worked! I ferried the two cars to the site by putting a bicycle in the back of the 928 - that's a cool feature of a 928. Also cool, for you bicyclists, is that the site is The Hub, a combination bike shop-microbrew establishment, owned by a car guy.

Wherever I park my cars, the muscle guys go to the other side. There were quite a few pickup trucks, including the first place winner, but second place went to a 1972 Mini pickup - very cool. The muscle cars were shut out.

By the way, when I contemplate organizing a 928 event in my corner of the world, this would be the evening gathering spot. The Corvette owner has a passenger van....

I don't know why but I always liked the opel lights. A big lever to pull and up they come.

And the most valuable car in the photo easily could be the Sprite...... cute often trumps everything else. And yes Opel GTs tended to not survive well between rust and overly enthusiastic drivers

Do they pop up or roll over along an axis parallel to the length of the car? For some reason I recall there is something unique about how the headlights work.

EDIT: Found it...

The mechanicals to get the Opel headlights to roll over were hard to get right. A long series of levers and steel rods. Once I got mine working I avoided touching them at all costs.

Their Swedish equivalent, the Sonett III, had the same. Direct, reliable....
