Thanks for the support. Thanks Erik.
I have started talking to Gates about another production run of 108 belts. They make one belt 108" long and then cut it into 1" strips. The tool is in Scotland and the same tool they use for the stock belts. I will keep you informed of what they say.

Hopefully this can become a new thing, every 4-5 years put together list to order another batch.
Todd will be ecstatic when I talk to him tomorrow. He was ready to buy all 108 belts to get another run made.

The stock belt is simply more elastic, and thus less accurate in camshaft timing , the gates belt I believe has impregnated Kevlar , but regardless of the composition , once it is installed you get some initial settling, Than it does not change . As my cars see continual track time , it is a much more reliable option. With stock recommended tension
As far as changing them for new , I am logging the motors hours run, and adding it to the data collection.

I don't NEED a timing belt at the moment - but if they are going to be in limited supply, then put me down for two.
What's the shelf life on one of these timing belts anyway?
Update: PMed Roger.

Eric, I see you have AO down for 6, please add 2 for DaveK Detroit.
I have been using one on the N2O car for the past few years w/o issue and want one for the Twin Screw I'm building.
It's good to have a spare on hand when needed, last pricing was somewhere around 175 each, is that the target price now?
Thank
Dave K

John Gill, Looks like you have some good experience with the Gates racing belt. I plan to install it. But I was told to use only the PK tensioner. Not sure that's right as the body material is the same but the inner core is made from kevlar. Also do you find it some what harder to move the belt over the last cam gear due to the none stretching of the kevlar?

There isn't any.
BTW, Rog says he's waiting on Gates to get back with him about making another run of them. So they are on the way.

ive been using the stock belt with no issues for 20 years and 250 race days. however, its unknown if my timing is effected as i have no way of knowing if the belt is stretching under load. statically, i see NOTHING that indicates a stretch based on stock valve springs. however, if Todd is seeing 10 degrees (hard to imagine) of stretch on a stock belt, then that certainly is a case to use a reinforced racing belt. my only concern was using too stiff of a belt would accelerate cam pulley wear, but thats my own guess and opinion.
my question is , is there more force on the belt as RPM goes up vs a static rotatiion of the engine ? you would think , at first glance , the force will not change regardless of the RPM, right? so if you see a stretch statically, (that factors out any stiction forces) that would be an indication that you might need a racing belt.

Talked with Gates again this morning and should have an answer today regarding price and ETA.
Thanks again for the support in helping me do this.
