yep, I did it with scots 5 liter euro. 4.7 to 5 liter bore job.... it works well. right to the limit for the amount of cylinder left . same result as when you make an S4 motor a 6.4 liter.

no problem and making the valve reliefs is very easy as well. turns out the 85 valve reliefs are what you machine into the 85 US 4 valve pistons... HOWEVER, you are then able to have pistons that can have the Proper offsets vs the stock set up. even more HP gained and balance there.

And none of that fixes the deck height issue that Stan's dealing with.
It also means that the crank has to be rebalanced......

The cheapest and best option might be to purchase an 85 - 86 S3 shortblock and build a hybrid 5 liter. Might even enhance the value of the car.

true... but how much is he over the top?
yes, he would balance the entire rotationg assembly. he could tip and tail balance all the rods and then send the rest out to balance the crank. i dont think that was too much .. $300 if i remember correctly

I also agree, it might just be better to grab a 5 liter short block from an 85, cut the pistons rebearing it and done. this is a $1000 solution that gives a LOT of bang for the buck!!!

I cheated some
I found a 1985 Euro short block it has a few corrosion issues,
but that should be able to be fixed up.
Now cleaning the parts and swapping them into this new block.
I will clean the bores and leave the rings and bearing alone,
good news this one the deck is flat.

Now I had the other block decked and it took .020 in. from each side to get it flat.
My Calico pistons just came back, now they have to be cut .020 to match the deck.
I am also planning on us=ing the thicker HGs for this
So anyway I will have a back up short block.

Note the last picture the shiny spots in the bores the right side bores all have this issue ,
it looks like the silicon has been worn away,
I was going to put some AN=30 paste on a rag and hand rub the spots to see if I could get them looking dull

the shiny spots are from the intake valves hitting the pistons,
with some hand polishing and the AN 30 paste it works well to restore the finish
