Default New Member Introduction

I always try to be brief, but it never really works out, so please bear with me. I am what you would classify as a lurker, as I have been perusing this forum for the past several years and have grown very appreciative of the information. I grew up into Mopar muscle; through high school and college I worked at a Dodge dealership and owned 3 Plymouth Barracudas. 30 years ago I sold the last one off. I was bitten by the Porsche bug maybe 18 years ago, kind of like a fantasy car thing. I drove probably 20 different 911’s, but could never pull the trigger-you know, high cash outlay, mortgage, kids, tuition, etc. The 928 has always intrigued me since the Risky Business/Scarface days. 7 years ago my son was on his college campus and snaps a photo and strikes a conversation with the owner, who is the football coach. Wind the clock up 5 years and I drive a 928 from an ad in a local paper. Turns out it was the same car my son took the photo of. The guy changed Porsches to an ’89 Carrera. I walked away as we couldn’t settle on realistic worth. 7 months later, a phone call, and I am now the proud owner of an ’82 5-speed. It was a three owner car, where the 1st owner turned it over relatively quickly and the next two owners kept it nearly 30yrs using the same mechanic. The exterior is really nice. The interior has redone leather seats that, again, are really nice. The only flaws are a cracked pod and leather on the dash that has seen better days (like a decade or two ago!). I got a pile of receipts from the 3rd owner; chronologically they look incomplete, but still $20K worth. The problems encountered so far include: leaky master cylinder from rock hard grommets on the reservoir, HVAC relay, headlight relay, water/heater valve, and just this past week I tackled the front ball cup bushing replacement (okay, I ordered a window switch this week as well). I have $130 or so in parts (plus my diagnosis and labor) over the past 1.5 years. I am the beneficiary of no differed maintenance– as Roger Tyson told me, ‘you’re livin’ the dream’! I wanted a driver quality car that I can tinker with, so this fills the void nicely; I got into this knowing I wouldn’t be able to tackle everything, so I will have to hand it over from time to time to the gentleman that has cared for it previously. I receive compliments all the time and it seriously puts a smile on my face every time I open the garage. I have learned quite a bit from all here, so I thank all you immensely. I know, I know, the jump post cover is on my to-do-list.

Congratulations, on your new ride. Looks like a nice example, very clean inside and out. Hope you enjoy many fine miles together.

And, welcome to Rennlist "unlurkier" style.

Wow, gorgeous and great find. Welcome Tim. Looking forward to seeing you at some of the Northeast events like Hershey and Frenzy, and coming up in two weeks, Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix.

I love the white and the early clean lines. Mines is a 78 but has had the later front bumper and splitter added. Love your rims too!

Thanks for the comments.
I have the original color keyed phone dials. I am a huge fan of the phone dial look, but mine are 15's.
I elected to pull the trigger without a PPI. The car runs well with ice cold AC. It does suffer from a weaker 2nd gear synchro, so I shift quickly at low rpm's. So that is the performance flaw. I would benefit from a "once over" by one of the knowledgable members here to create an appropriate to-do-list. Frenzy here I come!

According to the VA DMV site, not available, and LOL 911 is taken.

But this one can be had:

Tim-
Looking forward to seeing your car at Frenzy. Almost all need something, but you appear to be starting out with a fine example. Several of the most knowledgeable 928 gurus will be at Frenzy. Get ready to take some notes

You mean you will bring it down to stan's garage, right? He's getting busier and busier with them sharks. Pm him and he will take care of your car.
