Default 85 euro

I may sell my 85 euro but i need to know what the value might be. Its needs nothing mechanical I put a new racing belt and new water pump when i bought it and i have only put about 200 miles on it since. It does need some paint work most on drivers door my fault, and one panel on the drivers seat needs replaced. I am thinking maybe asking 12000 or 13000 for it as it is not perfect. It was bought new by a person in connecticut and never federalised except for the lights. It currently has about 48000 miles and it goes like stink. will have to figure out why i can not upload more but i think you can look in my albums

I think your undervalued its worth about 18000 to 25000,
this car appears to be a 5 speed
the 84/85 Euros were the early 928 GT versions
Prices are rising

I sold my Black 85 Euro 5 speed 98K miles,
with up to date sorted mechanicals ,
it still needed some interior dash work done and it went for 15 about 8 months ago, I should have held out for 18
so based on your info to me your undervalued.

Remember the 911 guys are now snooping into the 928 territory and finding a lower miles sorted out car is quite a valuable asset
the prices are also rising faster than you might think.
The 928 is really a spectacular machine and it was built with better parts than the 911 and subject to the same body preparation and corrosion treatment

627

When I wrecked the Stepson(A college kid pulled out of a blind driveway without looking my way and I T-boned him. His fault-failure to yield), his insurance company wanted to settle and sent me settlement papers. I was more than willing to settle, but as I perused the settlement, I notice they had used US '85 as comparable. I called them on it and they told me I could send in my own comps, but I couldn't use any car on Craigslist or EBay. I sent them an email that pointed out the difference between their comps and mine. I also pointed out the small number of Euro cars that had been imported. That narrowed my list of cars, but it was to my benefit. The check they ended up writing was approximately twice what they had been willing to pay and I kept the Stepson.

While I agree that '85/'86 Euros are special cars, I don't understand how this car is registered anywhere in the US, having not having completed the Federalization process.

How does that work?

It's older than 25 years old so it is federally exempt. However state regulations/emissions still apply. Here in WA it's pretty easy. YMMV

It appears that "back in the day" (the exemption expired in 1986) you were allowed a 'one time' EPA exemption and were allowed to bring one car into the US exempt from emissions. It still required lights and door beams to enter the US, but did NOT require cats/02 sensors, etc., or the car to pass emission testing. This is how my '80 Euro came in. I don't know if the lack of these changes make a difference, but the car is an absolute beast. I have all the import paperwork from EPA and the convertor along with a letter from the second owner who imported the car describing the process.

This car may have been imported under the same process. It also may explain why so few '86 cars made it in as the emissions exemption expired that year (this, along with the availability of the 32v motor in the US).

Depends when it's brought in as previously mentioned. I just brought in an 85 euro from Canada that was an original Germany delivery. It has had no federalization and none was required to bring it in. It is unmolested from that standpoint and still has the original KM speedometer. No emission/inspection requirements in OK so it is tagged and good to go.

We all agree that a manual transmission 1985 Euro may be the ultimate desired option with Rennlist members. But how much does it effect the valuation of a nice original car? Many buyers would prefer the automatic, though Hagerty states to discount the automatic car by 20%. Whats your opinion between the valuation of manual vs auto?

Well first to Mr Greg Bbrd,It was bought NEW by a young man in CT who's father was a hotshot in the connecticut dept of transportation or state police ,I would have to find the paperwork as i can't remember but because of that he got through with only what was needed to be visible , having lived in CT, I believe it. I will get back to you on that when i find everything. I am not sure on the 4 speed vs automatic except that when you watch the auctions you will always see that 4 speeds always seem to bring more money than auto's in some cases quite a lot more. It does not seem to matter what kind of car with a few exceptions but plymouth ,chevy ford I have watched them all go thru and even the commentators seem to reflect on it. I do have the paper work to back up everything. Stan,is it not amazing that you have had so many? John thanks for that so 627 out of 3 years 210 a year and I wonder how many have been wrecked with the power they had and the crazy drivers out there I can imagine it was it was a few plus the ones that were driven into the ground and junked. best to all.
