Default M3 motor mounts test

Trying out some mounts I found on the internet tubes after researching BMW mounts in general.

Made for a engine half as heavy but these aftermarket mounts are stiffer than stock. (There is an even stiffer option as well.) Throttle on and off are very direct (manual trans) but there is little to no vibration (NVH) at cruise. Engine moves slightly when blipped at idle. Engine height after ~100 miles of spirited cornering appears to be pretty close to stock mounts.

They would be perfect with 12mm studs but the 10mm work fine. I would imagine this may be an easy change for this company although I have not contacted them directly or told them of my experiment. Shipping was $15 from England and they arrived in less than a week, although it took a few days for them to acknowledge my order via PayPal.

E30 S14 - M3
11812225598 - stock
11811417407 - competition

Road, $330/pair - http://www.vibra-technics.com/bmw/e3...e_m3_and_320is
Race, $350/pair - http://www.vibra-technics.com/bmw/e3...e_m3_and_320is

10 mm studs, 78 mm tall, 85 mm wide, no locating pins (stock mounts are ~78.5mm tall)

Bottom stud is the same height as stock, the upper a few mm longer. Top and bottom were pretty near self-centering in the brackets.

When sitting on the mounts for the first time, hook separation was 2-3 mm. No problems with installation. (No hook adjustment required.)

Original 80K mile vs. M3 after ~100 miles (brace is bowed ~1mm in the center)

Default Great idea

Can I ask why you are considering the non porsche part? Those e30 engines are very light, may they make those mounts for the newer e90 platform? Those v8s would be closer in weight

The factory ones are fluid filled and squishy (then empty and sagging). These are firm but not solid.

These are the only ones I could find with a centered stud on both ends and the height is perfect. Every other mount I could find has an offset lower stud.

Their (VT's) other BMW units look identical to this one except with an offset stud. Perhaps they have a different rubber compound or different internal stack?

Cool! Which compound/setup, road or race?

So far, I really like the feel of road ones for my luxo-barge S4.

It might be interesting to try mixing sets - a racing one on the right for a torque stop.

They don't mention it on their FAQ page but the mounts are bolted together so I would imagine they would be rebuildable.

I should say I went from worst case to this, so my observations are skewed by having driven with alternating solid, sitting on the frame, or loose when cornering, original factory mounts. That said I would say if you like the feel of a Delrin'ed (or washer'ed) steering rack then you'd probably like the feel of these little blobs of rubber.

OMG, how it corners and the response is great. You can feel the engine doing its thing under throttle but I don't find it unpleasant, rather, it just makes me want to rev it up more.

I was wondering when someone was going to try those mounts. There are another couple companies that makes them as well.

I tried to make similar mounts a couple years back, but couldn't get them produced in low numbers at a reasonable price. I have the files here ready to go if someone had some ideas on how to get the price down.

Yeah I really liked the ones you designed Hans. Works of art they were.
