Not sure about elsewhere, but if it has a Salvage Title in Texas, it pretty much means "turn around and walk-away" if you ever want to get proper value out of it, unless you want a parts car.

That’s probably the universal standard for salvage titles. Myself, I deduct 50% if considering a value of a salvage title.

Well, if done correctly, you should be buying in at a discount so it's all relative. Not sure about Texas but most states distinguish between a salvage title and a reconstructed title.

What I recently found out about a salvage title versus a reconstructed title is that to the insurance company it doesn't matter. Once a vehicle is totaled, it will always cost an assload more to insure, regardless of what hoops you jump through reconstructing and retitling. I also found out that PA doesn't give a damn about salvage titling. You're not required to go to a salvage title just because your vehicle is totaled. The only reason you have to go to a salvage title is because the insurance company makes you get a salvage title before they'll cut you the check.

Interesting the variables from state to state.

I've never heard of a reconstructed title in Texas, just a Salvage Title (which is a bright yellow colored document instead of blue...the slang here is "it has a clear Blue title.") Shawn, it is also my understanding the while it may not have been the original purpose, the primary reason for the Salvage Title is so that the insurance industry only has to "total" a car once. Once it's totaled and issued a Salvage Title--no more insurance help.
I've heard horror stories about not being able to get insurance, no one will finance, and generally its a bear to even sell again. The folks that I know that bought salvage title vehicles, knew the vehicles history (sometimes it was actually theirs and they bought it back from the insurance company after it was totaled) and were wanting to just keep and drive it into the ground, or for parts.

It could be the same car?
Is it bad that the cracked dashboard is bothering me way more than the salvaged title? 🙈

A cracked dash can be repaired or replaced. A salvage title is a “scarlet letter” at least for future sale.

Let me just throw this out there. I have sold and purchased many reconditioned and salvage title cars. It's all relative. Buy it correctly and sell it accordingly. If done properly they are great cars to put lots of miles on as they usually are fully depreciated. I also had a positive insurance experience. Never paid more for coverage and the one reconstructed car that had totalled was paid off at regular market value. Just one mans experience.

Back to the car at hand......

Seems slightly high given the history but I like what I see otherwise.

I was frustrated for a bit. I had an ego rush and reminded them about what the data shows before and after April 2016, and they could at least do a brother a favor. But got quite a corporate response that the kind of car I was selling was not the kind of car they wanted. Which as you point out, is ironic and strange as a suggestion. I (sadly) just sold the car to mark and will focus on my other projects, but its irritating in an "injustice" sort of way.

Saw this one on eBay. Don't know anything about it. The bungee cord on one of the undercarriage shots is odd, but the price seems low.

In Wisconsin there are four titles
1. Clean
2. Salvage
3. Repaired Salvage
4. Junk or Totaled

A salvage car can only be turned to repaired salvage after an inspection, then it's treated like any other vehicle. I've owned a couple repaired salvage cars and my insurance company never cared, did not change my rates at all with State Farm.

Junk titles are always junk, means the car can never be titled for road use. They are parts cars.

That's pretty much the same everywhere, it's the insurance company that "stamps" the title and the amount of damage is irrelevant. I've seen cars rolled up in to a ball go across the insurance auction block with a clean title and other cars with no more than a wrinkled fender with a junk title.

There really isn't any rhyme or reason behind a lot of this.

When our '80 hit a deer a few years ago, the repair cost exceeded most valuations. Damage wasn't severe but as we all know the small stuff adds up quick. The title and Carfax are clear, never even came up in conversation with the adjuster.

The bungee cord is holding down the car cover.
